Every number on this site comes from the body that publishes it, dated when it was last checked.

How these figures are checked

Four rules.

  1. One source, and it is the body that publishes the figure. The Province of Nova Scotia for taxes and provincial programs, CMHC for insurance rules, OSFI for the qualifying rate, the Bank of Canada for the policy rate, the Nova Scotia Association of REALTORS® for prices, the Financial Consumer Agency of Canada for borrowing limits and prepayment charges.
  2. Every figure lives in one file. Each is imported from src/data/facts.ts with its source URL and check date beside it, so a number cannot differ from page to page.
  3. Where nothing authoritative is published, nothing is stated. No Nova Scotia source publishes appraisal fees, home inspection fees, mortgage rates or town-level average prices, so this site quotes none.
  4. Quarterly, and whenever a source moves. Everything is re-read at least every three months, and immediately when a schedule, programme or rule changes; each page carries its last-verified date, and every change is recorded with its source on the changelog.
